Empowering Tomorrow’s Voice: Student Leadership and Innovation Across Elm Campuses

Leadership begins with the courage to step forward. At Elm International Schools, we believe that preparing young learners for the future requires more than classroom instruction—it demands hands-on experience in responsibility, civic engagement, and public advocacy. Across our campuses, our students recently took center stage during our annual Student Council elections, demonstrating firsthand what it means to lead with integrity, confidence, and vision.

Courage in Action: Elections at Labada Boqol (200 Street) Campus

At our Labada Boqol (200 Street) campus, the election season brought vibrant energy to the school community. The student elections gave learners the opportunity to build campaign platforms, present their ideas before their peers, vote, and experience democracy in action.

Throughout the process, students developed vital life skills:

  • Public Speaking & Articulation: Candidates honed their ability to draft compelling speeches and deliver their visions clearly to an audience.
  • Civic Responsibility: Student voters learned the weight and importance of choosing representatives who reflect their collective values.
  • Mutual Respect: The campaigns emphasized constructive dialogue, active listening, and respect for every candidate’s voice.

We are immensely proud of every candidate, voter, educator, and team member who worked together to make this journey meaningful and impactful for our learners.

Embracing the Future: Electronic Voting at Masalaha Campus

Building on this foundational spirit of student democracy, our Masalaha Primary School Campus introduced a modern twist to the electoral process: an electronic voting system.

By integrating digital voting terminals, young voters experienced the intersection of democratic values and modern technology. From confident candidates delivering their final campaign pitches on the microphone to students casting their secure digital ballots on screen, Masalaha campus showcased how educational technology (EdTech) can make civic participation seamless, transparent, and engaging.

Nurturing Visionary Leaders for Somaliland and Beyond

Whether through traditional ballot boxes or cutting-edge digital voting systems, the overarching goal across all Elm campuses remains the same: to cultivate ethical, articulate, and technology-fluent leaders.

By giving students a direct voice in their school community today, we are laying the foundation for them to become thoughtful decision-makers and community leaders tomorrow.

Congratulations to all our newly elected student representatives! We look forward to seeing your initiatives shape our school community throughout the 2026–2027 academic year.
